Newly Proposed $250 Bill Might Feature a Familiar Face

In February 2025, the Trump Administration announced a shocking proposal for a brand new $250 bill. If this bill is created, it will be the first brand new bill in the US since the $2 bill, created in 1862, featuring the late Alexander Hamilton. The Trump administration claims that the $250 bill is necessary due to Biden's economy. South Carolina's republican Congressman, Joe Wilson, said, “Bidenflation has destroyed the economy forcing American families to carry more cash. President Trump is working tirelessly to fight inflation and help American families. This achievement is deserving of currency recognition, which is why I am grateful to introduce this legislation. The most valuable bill for the most valuable President!”.

The point of the claim is that Former President Joe Biden caused inflation so severe that prices reflected the amount of cash that Americans needed to carry. Due to the higher amount of cash required, the Trump Administration proposes the new bill to allow Americans to have fewer physical bills on them. While this seems somewhat unproblematic, there was one detail that is currently causing severe controversy: the person featured on the bill.
For reference, in 1866, the US Congress passed a law prohibiting any living person from being featured on US currency. The Trump Administration plans to overrule this law and place Donald Trump on the $250 bill. Congressman Wilson tweeted, "Grateful to announce that I am drafting legislation to direct the bureau of engraving and printing to design a $250 bill featuring President Donald Trump".

It seems somewhat problematic that the American Republican Party idolizes President Trump the way they do. First, it is overruling a law that has been standing in the US for centuries. Then, it is proposing that Trump be added to the white house. Next, the proposal is for Trump to have a third term despite the 22nd Amendment. If this continues, it could become problematic. It is important to remember that politicians are still people and should not be treated as more than fellow humans. As William Shakespeare famously wrote in Act 1, Scene 2 of Julius Caesar, "Why should that name be sounded more than yours". Conspirator Cassius asks Brutus why the name of politician Julius Caesar should be more important than any other name.
This principle should still apply today in the United States. Idolizing anyone, especially politicians, can be extremely problematic. Overall, it is important to remember that rules are in place to prevent chaos and injustice, and breaking them will slowly lead to just that.
